Rebecca Powers, M.D.

Pediatrician

Dr. Powers re-joined the Center of Excellence for Children in State Custody in July 2006.  Dr. Powers originally worked with the Center of Excellence from  January 2003 to  November 2004.  Since 2000, she has been a part of ETSU Department of Pediatrics.  Dr. Powers has been the Pediatric Clerkship Director since December 2002.  She is an Attending Physician at ETSU Physicians and Associates General Pediatric Clinic and Johnson City Medical Center Newborn Nursery.     

Dr. Powers received a Bachelor of Science degree from Okalahoma City University in 1991 and Doctor of Medicine degree from Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1997.  She completed her residency at East Tennessee State University in 2000.  Dr. Powers is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.       

Dr. Powers has been involved in the following research activities:  Co-Investigator on EPIC Study since August 2005; PROS Safety Check from January 2005 to June 2005; Collaboration with Berman, et al on CLIPP Study; Advisor on two resident research projects. 

She currently serves on the following committees:  College of Medicine Admissions Committee, Credential Committee at Johnson City Medical Center, Department of Pediatric Medical Student Education Committee (Co-Chair), Department of Pediatric Grand Rounds Committee.  She is a Medical Advisor to the ETSU Child Study Center and Founding Member of the Northeast Tennessee Breastfeeding Coalition. 

She has received the following honors and awards:  Fellow, American Academy of Pediatrics from 2001 - present; Caduceus Club, Pediatric Teacher of the Year, 2004 - Nominated 2001, 2002, 2005; Caduceus Club, Clerkship of the Year, 2004 - Nominated 2003, 2005; Chief Resident in 1999.
