Congratulations to Ms. Starlet Williams, recipient of a distinguished ETSU Centennial Celebration Faculty Award!
As part of the ETSU Centennial Celebration on October 10, 2011, faculty members from each college on campus were recognized. Due to the significant contribution of University School to ETSU, we were asked to select a University School faculty member to receive the award. As stated in our
"The present University School has been a part of ETSU since it began in 1911 as a two-year normal school."
K-12 students voted, with Ms. Williams receiving the highest number of votes.
Ms. Starlet Williams is a true-blue home-grown Buc! She received her 1st degree from East Tennessee State College in 1964, a B.S. degree from East Tennessee State University in 1984, and then her Master Degree from ETSU in 1990. Having been an instructor for University School for 25 years, Ms. Williams has taught several courses in our Social Studies department, and is currently teaching Economics, Government, and Geography. She is currently the sponsor for the University School Pep Club and Godz Girlz. She has also sponsored Mock Trial, Soccer, and the Geography Bee. Each year her students excel in the community-wide Stock Market Game. Ms. Williams is also the current president for ETSU NEA/TEA.
University School students love Ms. Williams, affectionately dubbing her as "Ms. Wills". She is more than an instructor; she is a friend to our students and staff. We will deeply miss Ms. Williams at University School, as she is planning to retire at the end of this calendar year.
Ms. Williams is a superb example of the excellent instruction provided at ETSU and University School. We are so very proud to claim her as a Buc!
