Program Title: 2 nd Annual Regional Healthcare Symposium

About the Conference:
This year's symposium is designed to increase the primary care provider's knowledge, skill and competencies in newly emerging evidence-based patient management in the areas of sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, cancer survivorship, dementia, autism, primary-care focused physical therapy and Barrett's Syndrome and GERD.

Also being offered this year will be a 1 hour presentation on Physician Prescribing Patterns that meets the Tennessee State Licensing Board's educational requirements.

This conference is planned and presented by Kingsport Tomorrow and Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in collaboration with the Office of Continuing Medical Education at Quillen College of Medicine, ETSU.

Saturday, November 12th, 2011 at the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center, 1901 Meadowview Parkway, Kingsport Tennessee 37660.

Target Audience: Primary Care Physicians and Mid Level Providers, Nurses, Physical Therapists, and Other Clinical Healthcare Providers.

Course Content and Learning Objectives: As a result of participating in this activity, the attendee should be able to...

  1. Describe the risk factors for, indicators of, and disease impact of sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome.
  2. Describe the ongoing surveillance adult survivors of cancer need from their primary care providers.
  3. Describe the evidence-based physical therapy treatments/interventions for primary care patients with:
    • school or recreational injuries
    • physical capacity documentation requirement
    • vertigo, dizziness or falls
    • urinary incontinence
  4. Explore evolving theories and current controversies in the pathophysiology and management of Barrett's Esophagus and GERD.
  5. Identify the early indicators of Autism in children, its diagnosis, treatment and resources.
  6. Describe the updates to diagnosis and treatment of the dementia patient in primary care.
  7. Describe the indicators of drug abuse in patients and physicians, and the strategies for addressing each.

Fees: $125 for physicians; $75 for APNs, PAs, Nurses, Physical Therapists and all other Allied Health Professionals. Registrants will receive credit, access to course materials, continental breakfast, a box lunch and snacks.
