A native of Nova Scotia, Canada, Dr.
Bagnell received his M.D. degree from Dalhousie University in
1968. He completed his residency training at Izaak Walton
Killam Hospital for Children in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the
Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, where he also
remained for fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology
and nutrition.
He joined the ETSU in 1991 with a faculty appointment with the Department of Pediatrics, where he was instrumental in developing the pediatrics residency training program, which earned full accreditation in 1996. Bagnell served as director of the pediatric residency training program from 1996-98 when he took a leave of absence to serve as the Vice President for Medical Affairs of the Johnson City Medical Center. In 2000, he resumed his responsibilities at the college with his appointment of Executive Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs and served as chief academic officer for the College of Medicine until his appointment in September 2006, as Dean of Medicine. |
Dr. Bagnell is a Fellow of the American
Academy of Pediatrics and is a member of the following
organizations: The North American Society for
Gastroenterology and Nutrition, the American Gastroenterogical
Association, the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of
Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha
Medical Honor Society and the Tennessee Medical Association.
