Dr. Olive received his B.S. degree from Duke University in 1978 and his M.D. degree from East Carolina University in 1982. He completed his residency training at the USAF Medical Center, Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton Ohio where he served for a fourth year as Chief Medical Resident.
Following completion of training he served as a general internist in the USAF and as Chief of General Internal Medicine at Wright-Patterson AFB. He joined the ETSU faculty in 1989 and has served in various capacities including: internal medicine residency program site director for Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City General Internal Medicine division chief, Hawkins County Academic Health Center site director for the Rural Primary Care Track, Department of Internal Medicine vice-chair and interim chair, Institutional Review Board chair, and Executive Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs.
Dr. Olive is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and served on its Board of Governors for four years. He continues to serve as a member of the American College of Physicians Health and Public Policy Committee.
He is certified in internal medicine and geriatrics by the American Board of Internal Medicine and continues to provide limited patient care through the faculty practice.
