Technical Assistance Offered
Assistance Provided Without Charge:
DLAR personnel will provide, without charge,
assistance with anesthesia of animals used in ETSU teaching
laboratories that are part of a course listed in the ETSU
catalog.
Diagnostic services for unexpected illnesses
- not related to any research procedure - will be provided
without charge.
DLAR will provide without charge, training to
faculty, technical staff, and students as needed:

handling of animals
-
administration of anesthetics
-
post-surgical maintenance of animals
-
bleeding techniques
-
euthanasia
-
other related procedures
Assistance Offered for a Service
Charge:
DLAR offers to provide a variety of other
services; fees will be charged for these services (time and
supplies):
-
restraint of animals
-
induction and maintenance of
anesthesia
-
experimental surgery
-
pre- and postoperative care
-
blood and tissue collection
-
injections (s.c injections of antigens
etc.)
The following rates will be charged for these
services (F/Y 2010-11):
Veterinary assistance: $45.60 ($91.20*) per
hour
Technical assistance: $26.42 ($52.84*) per hour
* will be charged outside regular ETSU work hours (nights,
weekends, holidays).
Charges will be computed on a quarter-hour
basis, with the minimum charge being for 15 minutes.
All services should be requested in writing
through the DLAR office at least 24 hours in advance
. We are supporting numerous research and
teaching projects with our technical staff often booked weeks in
advance. Please plan as far ahead as possible. Services will be
provided as scheduling permits. Animal husbandry tasks will
always have priority. The DLAR animal technicians and veterinary
assistants have received training in laboratory animal husbandry
and technology. All are certified by the
American Association
for Laboratory Animal Science.
