> Dear Friends,
QCOM is a primary care-focused school, our goal as FMIG is at the heart of QCOM's mission. We are very active in the community in promoting health and wellness, fundraising, and serving the underserved, and hope that you will join us!
FMIG provides many opportunities to get out of the classroom and serve the community. We have a community garden that is just a few minutes away from the VA campus. Working in the garden provides us with a great way to help out our local food bank where we donate all the produce and to enjoy working outside.
We also are actively involved in teaching community health through the Ready Set Fit! Program and Tar Wars. Through the local schools and after school programs, Ready Set Fit! aims to educate kids about obesity and how to maintain a health lifestyle. Tar Wars is a smoking prevention program geared for younger children where they get see first hand what smoking does to your lungs and participate in activities such as a poster contest. We also are involved in volunteering at Migrant Camp clinics (held during the summer), and the Church Hill Free Medical Clinic where we work closely with the physicians there.
You are always invited to our monthly lunch meetings where we provide a free meal and speakers who will help us better understand the field of family medicine. We will also have monthly evening workshops on topics such as suturing, phlebotomy, casting, and osteopathic manipulations.
We sincerely hope that you will become involved with us! Not only is FMIG a great way to become involved in your school and community, it will give you the opportunity to gain leadership experience and resume opportunities, as well as have a lot of fun.
Please email me if you have any questions or are interested in finding out more about FMIG!
All the best,
Alissa Hinkle>
