Dr. Fred Tudiver retired from his full-time department faculty position in 2016, but has continued as a part-time preceptor in our residency programs. He was the first Director of Primary Care Research for the Division of Health Sciences at East Tennessee State University. As such, he provided leadership for primary care, multidisciplinary collaborative research within the ETSU Department of Family Medicine and the Health Sciences Division, which includes the Quillen College of Medicine, College of Nursing, and College of Public and Allied Health.
Fred came to ETSU from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University at Syracuse, where he was faculty. A native of Montreal, Canada, Dr. Tudiver earned his M.D. degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Western Ontario. He holds board certification and is a fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. During his time at ETSU, Dr. Tudiver received more than $1 million in peer-reviewed grant funding and awards. Tudiver's research interests include the role of primary care physicians in making cancer screening decisions, primary health care needs of men, diabetes telemedicine, evidence-based medicine faculty development, and the use of handheld computers in primary care practice. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, North American Primary Care Research Group, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
