Michael Floyd, EdD, Professor Emertius and Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Floyd was born in Florida, and later moved to Illinois and New Orleans. He completed his Bachelor's degree at the University of Georgia and Master's and Doctorate at Auburn University. Prior to his faculty appointment with East Tennessee State University Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Floyd practiced at Watauga Mental Health Services and Woodridge Psychiatric Hospital in Johnson City as a Psychologist and Director of a chemical dependency inpatient treatment program. Dr. Floyd's professional and research interests include substance use disorders, physician well-being, doctor-patient relationships, clinical interviews, and subjective aspects of illness.  Dr. Floyd's wife Dr. Susanna Floyd teaches third grade at the University School. They live in historic Jonesborough with their two children, Ben and Anna. Ben graduated from the ETSU College of Nursing in 2011 and is now employed with Mountain States Health Alliance at the Johnson City Medical Center and Anna, graduated German at the University of North Carolina - Asheville in May 2012 with a major in German.  Dr. Floyd retired from East Tennessee State University in 2011 and returned as an Emeritus Professor, with the Post Retirement Program and is currently involved with the NCI Cancer and the SBIRT grants within the Department of Family Medicine. Besides hanging out with his family and the locals in town, Dr. Floyd enjoys singing in the church choir, cross-country skiing, hiking and bicycling (single track, road, and tandem).
