I was born in Memphis and grew up near Arlington, TN. After earning a degree in medical
anthropology from the University of Memphis, I spent some time traveling and teaching English
as a Second Language in France and South Korea. I decided that I was more interested in medical
practice than in policy or education and went to medical school at the James H. Quillen College
of Medicine. I am very happy to be back to study family medicine. It is beautiful country and
the people and communities are unique. The need for health care in the Appalachian area is
considerable. Many of the faculty and staff we work with have a life-long dedication to this
region and it shows in the relationship with our patients. The people are warm and seem to really
appreciate our efforts to treat and educate. My fiancée, Dar, is a massage therapist from Memphis
and has also fallen in love with East Tennessee. We enjoy movies, reading, hiking, working on the
house and taking care of our animals.
