Division of Basic Research

The Division of Basic Research of the Department of Internal Medicine at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University is committed to excellence in teaching, research and service.

Division faculty members and staff are located in Buildings 1 and 119 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Campus.

Our division members participate in medical student teaching and departmental grand rounds. They have a broad range of research interests, including atherosclerosis, vascular biology, lipids and lipoprotein metabolism, diabetes, cytokines, mast cell biology, macrophage cell biology, and immune responses to pathogens, with presentations at local, regional and national meetings.

The division faculty are involved in promoting research by undergraduate, graduate and medical students, residents and fellows.

The division is also responsible for a monthly research seminar series, departmental laboratory meetings, OSHA training and compliance, and maintaining functional departmental research laboratories.

Division faculty are active in numerous service activities including participation in National Institutes of Health grant review committees, serving as invited journal reviewers, journal editor, book editor, and leadership roles in University, College of Medicine and Departmental committees.
