My primary decision for choosing Quillen College of Medicine was due to its national reputation in training primary care physicians. Unlike larger medical schools, Quillen offers a small class size that affords you the opportunity to develop relationships with faculty. The medical school has strong ties to the community and leading health care facilities in Northeast Tennessee. Students are encouraged to participate in service related activities in the community which promotes a better understanding of the health related issues in the region.
Being a Quillen Student
Becoming a Quillen Student means that you have a new extended family. Faculty, staff, and fellow students want you to succeed and be successful in medicine. Faculty treats students as their colleagues and takes time out of their schedules to help students after class. The school makes every effort to bring students together by hosting outside the classroom events such as the Cadaver Ball, Halloween and Back to Books parties, cookouts with faculty, and community service projects. As a Quillen medical student you are looked up to and respected in the community. The community has an invested interest in all of the Quillen students, because many graduates choose to return to this region to practice after residency.

Living in Northeast Tennessee
I have lived in Northeast Tennessee for most of my life. It is a great area to live in if you enjoy outdoor activities. The Appalachian Trail comes through this part of Tennessee and we have other great places to go hiking and camping in the Smoky Mountains. There are numerous lakes and rivers in the surrounding area if you enjoy water sports such as boating, fishing, or white water kayaking.
