In January, 2009, Senator Bill Frist, a
member of the RWJ Commission to Build a Healthier America, and
several members of the Commission Staff conducted a fact-finding
visit to east Tennessee and southwest Virginia to learn more
about the health challenges facing rural America. The
Commission heard presentations by Dean Randy Wykoff and Bruce
Behringer and then met with a group of community leaders to
discuss the unique challenges facing rural America. The
Commission then conducted a day-long information gathering visit
to several sites in rural Tennessee and Virginia.
