The primary mission of the ETSU Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology is to create and to disseminate that body of knowledge generally defined within the scope of criminology, which includes the study of the breaking of laws, the making of laws, and the social and political reaction to the breaking of laws.
In
conjunction with the goals of East
Tennessee State University and the
College of Arts and Sciences, the
Department offers three programs that encompass a philosophy of liberal
arts education grounded in social science methodologies. The two
undergraduate
programs facilitate mastery of basic academic competencies and provide a
basic level of expertise in the field of criminal justice and
criminology. The two undergraduate programs are: Bachelor of Arts and
Bachelor of Science with a Concentration in Social & Behavioral Science.
The
graduate degree, a Master of Arts, promotes a critical examination
of crime, offenders, and the criminal justice system while enhancing
analytical and communication skills. The online graduate
certificate in Forensic Document Examination was recently approved by
the Tennessee Board of Regents; classes begin Summer 2009!
