A trained journalist, White began his professional life as a newspaper sportswriter and sports editor, and over an eight-year span covered events such as the Citrus Bowl, Cotton Bowl, NCAA Women’s Final Four, Major League Baseball’s first interleague series, and the SEC football championship game. In 2002, White joined East Tennessee State University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and has spent the past 15 years with the program, rising to the senior-level administration position of Associate Athletic Director for Communications. At ETSU, he oversees the program’s media relations and public relations functions, the Buccaneer Sports Network’s radio, television and web-streaming outlets, directs the department’s branding efforts, and advises the university president in public relations matters as a member of the four-person Campus Communication Team (CCT).
A four-year varsity baseball player in college, White earned his undergraduate degree from Milligan College in 1996 with a double major in communications and business. He later received his Master in Business Administration (MBA) from ETSU in 2008 and expects to earn his doctoral degree (Ed.D.) in Global Sports Leadership from ETSU in the spring of 2018.
White is married to Dr. Sherri L. Smith White and has three children, Jackson (12), Raina (5) and Keagan (2). The family makes their home in Johnson City, Tenn.
