Professional Summary:

Sam Ferguson assumed the role as McMurry's Director of Athletics on April 28, 2014. Ferguson came to McM from Averett University in Danville, Virginia.

At McM, Ferguson oversees the War Hawks’ 19-sport intercollegiate program. Ferguson has had an immediate positive impact on McMurry’s athletics department. Some of his accomplishments during his inaugural year included an exclusive apparel deal with Russell Athletic, organizing a new booster club, an exclusive bus transportation contract, revamping the school’s season ticket plan and a new radio deal which gives the War Hawks’ teams better local exposure and coverage (as well as worldwide access via the web). McMurry’s fund-raising golf outing also enjoyed its best results in 2015.

The 1997 Averett alumnus was a two-year member of the institution’s golf and basketball teams. Ferguson earned a Master of Science degree in Sports Management from Nova Southeastern University in 2006.


Ferguson is married to the former Kimberly Parker, who is an elementary school teacher. The couple resides in Abilene and are members of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
