Graduate Assistantship for the D. P. Culp University Center Office

Number of Positions: 2 (Two)

Contract Dates: Fall 2012 - Spring 2013

Job Description:

Employee will function under the supervision of the Coordinator of Operations of the University Center Office. The position includes the responsibility for the overall operation of the University Center during the weekday evening operation hours, weekend operation hours or weekday special projects and the supervision of student worker staff. This employee will serve as one of four Managers for the D.P. Culp University Center.

This employee at times will be the only staff member on duty and thus has full responsibility for the building and it’s operation. This employee’s operating hours will vary: 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM Saturday and Sunday or 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Monday - Friday. These hours will be shared among the 4 Managers and will not exceed 20 hours a week. Since the individual must stay in the building at all times, the University Center Food Service provides complimentary meals on Saturday and Sunday during the regular school year.

Job Requirements:

  • Oversee and facilitate scheduled activities and events each evening and on weekends
  • Check the building for security, safety, vandalism, and maintenance needs
  • Greet all user groups as the Evening/Weekend Manager and ETSU host
  • Respond to all emergency situations (i.e. fire, weather, personal injuries, damages, etc.)
  • Supervises the activities of student workers
  • Prepare a variety of reports through the use of the reservations computer system
  • Provide support for physically disabled facility users
  • Respond to last minute facility and technical service requests
  • Food Service liaison for evening/weekend hours
  • Custodial Service liaison for evening/weekend hours
  • Provide access and management assistance to the University Lost & Found program
  • Prepare the documentation and necessary arrangements for unscheduled events and set-up requests
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must possess an earned Bachelor’s Degree and be admitted to a graduate program of East Tennessee State University
  • Experience in upper management is preferred but not necessary
  • Ability to interact with a diverse student population
  • Ability to organize tasks, prioritize duties, and effectively complete the various duties assigned
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
