The Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship

Award: $8,000 a year plus travel and
conference funds, once renewable, with an additional $6,500 for
taking part in a 10-week internship at the end of the first
year.
Eligibility: Applicants must be US
citizens, full-time students of sophomore standing, and have a
GPA of at least 3.0 (both within their major and overall). In
addition, applicants GPA for each semester must be at or above
3.0 as well.
When to Apply: Applications are
usually due in early January.
Sponsored by the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration, the Ernest F. Hollings scholarship
is designed to attract students to the study of oceanic and
atmospheric sciences and to help prepare them for careers in
research, technology, public service, or education that deal
with the ocean, atmosphere, and environment. Recipients will
receive up to $8,000 in order to assist them with tuition and
living expenses each year they receive the Scholarship, as well
as be employed at a NOAA facility during the summer break after
their first scholarship year.
Applicants should already be majoring in a discipline
related or applicable to oceanic and atmospheric sciences and/or
environmental stewardship (including the Biological, Social and
Physical Sciences, Computer and Informational Sciences,
Education, and Engineering).
