5. Academics

This section will provide guidance on how to register for classes.  Note that there are different registration procedures depending on your degree level.  Choose the degree level that is appropriate for you.

A. For Undergraduate Students (i.e. those seeking Bachelor's degrees):

  • F-1 degree-seeking undergraduate students:  Degree seeking undergraduate international students are required to complete the ETSU online orientation called LAUNCH. You will receive an email in your eMail account from the Orientation Office inviting you to complete it online.  You must complete LAUNCH (and pay its $30 fee) before you will be allowed to register for classes. Instructions for activating your ETSU eMail account are in Section 8.
  • After you complete LAUNCH, contact your academic advisor by email for assistance in registering for classes. The earlier you register, the better your chances of getting a seat in courses that you need.  If you do not know who your Academic Advisor is, you can find out here: http://www.etsu.edu/advisement/continuingstudents/AdvisorContactList.php
  • J-1 visiting/exchange students: Your academic advisor will contact you via your ETSU eMail account. [Note: Instructions for activating your ETSU eMail account are in Section 8.] If your academic advisor does not contact you, please find the advisor for your major here: http://www.etsu.edu/advisement/continuingstudents/AdvisorContactList.php and contact him or her by email.
  • Your academic advisor is the person who will assist you with any questions or concerns regarding your academic program. The International Student Advisor will advise you on regulations pertaining to your F-1 or J-1 immigration status.

B. For Graduate Students (i.e. those seeking Master's or Doctorate degrees):

  • Your Graduate Coordinator, whose name is listed in your admission letter, will serve as your academic advisor. Please contact him or her by email for assistance in registering for classes. The earlier you register, the better your chances of getting a seat in courses that you need. Your International Student Advisor will advise you on regulations pertaining to your F-1 or J-1 immigration status.
