EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:  Ms. Betty Moore, Chair

Attention was drawn to the fact that an amendment of the ETSURA by-laws was approved at the Eat and Chat session on April 17, 2003.  Attention was also drawn to a letter concerning name tags which was included in the packet.  It was suggested that name tags should now be obtained at the I.D. Center in the Culp Center.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE:  Jay Allen, Chair

It was noted that there are now 289 paid members.  Discussion centered on means to recruit additional retirees to the organization.  Board members were urged to call retirees they know who are not on the list.  Some members offered to pay membership fees as a scholarship for some new members.

FINANCE COMMITTEE:  Betty Tester, Chair

There are five annual scholarships of $300 awarded, disbursed at $150 per semester.  It was suggested that membership should be encouraged to continue to donate to the endowment account.  A request will also be made in the newsletter.

PROGRAM COMMITTEE: Joan Dressel, Chair

Plans are on track for the picnic to be held on June 26, 2003.  It is hoped an agreement will be reached for music by weeks’ end (Jonesborough Novelty Band).

Willene Paxton indicated continued activity in Tales of the University. She indicated upcoming interviews with the "Girls of Summer."

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE:  Barbara Humphrys, Chair

The current membership list will be used to distribute the invitation to the picnic.

COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE: George Granger, Chair

Attention was drawn to the Faculty Senate Committee on the Retiree Outreach Committee.  We have been invited to supply names to this committee and a list has been sent.  A mechanism for supplying information to this committee was suggested.  It will be made a part of the agenda of board meetings.

LIAISON COMMITTEE:  Bill Fisher, Chair

Dr. Fisher discussed several items of interest.  These included:

1.      A report on the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (things seem to be good).

2.      The cost of living increases of Social Security and the retirement system (these should be higher).

3.      A report on the Regents’ On-line Degree Program, and information on the proposed statewide School of Public Health.   He supplied documents containing the information.  Dr. Allen informed the committee of the questions that faculty will be asked to discuss relating to the School of Public Health.

Dr. Stout indicated progress on working on the letter regarding a state income tax which will be presented to the attendees of the picnic.  He will present the new wording in the letter at the May meeting.

The committee congratulated Dr. Stout on his selection for an Outstanding Alumnus Award.

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, May 27, 2003.  There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 4:35 p.m.

Respectively submitted,

Dr. Charles Votaw, Secretary
