Definition   

Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in preparing and cooking more complex food items for a cafeteria operation, and performing related work as required. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Cooks more complex food items such as sauces, meats, and vegetables for a Cafeteria from production sheets.

May have responsibility for assisting lower level cooks with work to ensure timely completion.

Seasons and tastes food for quality.

Receives and inspects food supplies for use in menu items.

May also bake for portion of time.

Performs other work as assigned. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of modern methods, materials and equipment used in food service.

Knowledge with respect to health hazards in food preparation and precautionary measures.

Knowledge of modern cooking techniques.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the students, the public and other employees.

Recommended Qualifications

Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. Completion of eighth grade. Experience as a cook in a food service operation. Applicants should possess a current health card issued by the County Health Department.
