Gomphotheriidae
ETMNH 8517
Right metatarsals 3rd to 5th digit with 2 sesamoids and possible phalanx in concretion
Excavated Jan 2010
These metatarsals (foot bones) remain articulated because hard minerals grew around them preserving their anatomical fit. In addition, note the presence of growth plates at the ends of the bones indicating that this individual was not yet mature.
