UPPER EAST TENNESSEE SCIENCE FAIR

To Be Held  Thursday, April 24, 2008

The Upper East Tennessee Science Fair is held each year on a Thursday in April on the East Tennessee State University campus.  The event is sponsored by the Johnson City Kiwanis Club and ETSU.  It features approximately 400 exhibits submitted by fourth through eighth graders from approximately 40 schools in the region.

Professional scientists from Eastman Chemical Company, Siemens Industrial Automation, and ETSU judge the competition.  More than $5000 in prize money, donated by the Kiwanis Club and Eastman, is awarded to student winners and to their schools. Two $100 prizes are awarded by ETSU's Center for Appalachian Studies and Services and four $100 prizes are awarded by the Tennessee Academy of Science.  Prize-winning exhibits are displayed at Hands-On! Regional Museum in Johnson City usually in early May.

Below you will find information files and forms for the 2008 Science Fair.   The forms can be downloaded and photocopied as needed.   { Postmark Deadline is Friday, April 11, 2008}

PLEASE NOTE:  The Culp Center is undergoing renovation and construction activities will be taking place at the time of the fair.  Please keep students supervised and safe!  The auditorium will not be available so the Awards Ceremony will take place in the Ballroom where the projects are displayed.

Please pay particular attention to these things:
* The School Entry Form (back) says how many entries each school may sponsor, and that you may not substitute between Biological and Physical Sciences quotas.
* Form H (human subjects) states clearly that school counselors may sign for projects involving behavioral studies and surveys.
* Form V (vertebrate subjects) is required for projects using fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, or mammals.  It is not necessary to include Form V for human subjects.
* Form H and Form V require teachers and professionals to confirm that  relevant aspects of the project have been discussed with the student before the proposed   research was done.
