ETSU Veteran's Office Mission Statement
Our role is to serve the educational and training needs of prospective and/or enrolled service members, veterans, their dependents or survivors, and other persons eligible to receive education benefits under the various Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) programs. The Veterans Affairs' Coordinator provides benefit and education counseling, program information, referral to various agencies, and certifies eligible students to receive education benefits under various state and federal programs while maintaining a congenial working relationship with the Veterans Administration and other agencies serving veterans. It is our goal and honor to assist Veterans as they utilize their G.I. Bill benefits to pursue educational success at East Tennessee State University. Our staff is well aware of the difficulties that can be associated with transitioning from combat to the classroom. We hope to make that transition as smooth and convenient as possible. On behalf of this University and a grateful Nation we thank you for your service and welcome you to ETSU.
Welcome to the Veterans Affairs site at East Tennessee State University (ETSU). This office administers various veterans' and certain veterans' dependents' educational assistance benefit programs of the United States Department of Veteran Affairs (USDVA) for students attending this institution.
Our goal is to provide exemplary educational benefit programs and other supportive services to veterans' and certain veterans' dependents enrolled at ETSU.
Please review the Veterans Responsibilities flyer.

Veterans Readmission to ETSU due to Active Duty Service
The Higher Education Act provides that an institution of higher education may not deny readmission to a servicemember of the uniformed services for reasons relating to that service. In addition, a student who is readmitted to an institution must be readmitted with the same academic status that the student had when he or she last attended the institution, to include tuition and fee amounts for one (1) year.
An affected servicemember is any individual who is a member of, applies to be a member of, or performed, or has the obligation to perform, service in the uniformed service. This requirement applies to service in the uniformed services, whether voluntary or involuntary, on active duty in the Armed Forces, including service as a member of the National Guard or Reserve, for a period of more than 30 days under a call or order to active duty of more than 30 days.
If you believe you qualify for Veterans readmission to ETSU, please contact the ETSU Veterans Affairs Office.
