During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the Staff Senate sponsors and organizes the Holiday Food Drive for local community members.  Individual staff, faculty, and students donate money and food items to be distributed to qualifying ETSU employees and students, as well as ETSU Families First participants, the Washington County School System, Tennessee Early Intervention, Elizabethton and Johnson City hospices, Safe Passage Women’s Shelter, and other families in our community.

In 2011 enough items were collected to fill 71 requested ETSU Staff Thanksgiving baskets. An additional $3,927.26 in monetary donations was collected to provide Food City gift cards for each basket. We also donated approximately 100 baskets to the Washington County School System, and 10 baskets to families in the community.

With leftover food and monetary donations we were able to supply food baskets and Food City gift cards to ETSU employees on extended medical leave and to support ETSU Litle Bucs Angel Tree children for the Christmas season.

Thanks to the ETSU community for demonstrating such generosity!
