RA Minimum Qualifications for Selection
Exhibit the following personal characteristics needed to be a good role model and build a successful community:

- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to interact with a diverse student population and relate well with peers
- Accepting of others and approachable
- Motivated with a positive attitude and integrity
- Self-confidence, self-discipline, self-awareness
- Receptive to feedback with a desire to improve and grow
- Ability to problem-solve, make sound decisions, and exercise authority wisely
Be enrolled as a full-time student with a minimum overall combined GPA of 2.50 and
in good standing with the University and Department of Housing and Residence Life
Have lived in an ETSU on-campus residence hall or apartment for at least one full
semester or have prior experience as an RA at another institution for at least one
full semester
Have knowledge of campus resources and extracurricular activities with an understanding
of how these provide opportunities for learning and development
Have the ability to be flexible, work within a team, organize tasks, prioritize duties, and effectively complete the various components of the RA position, including the following physical requirements: 1) visually assess the community, surroundings, and situations that occur spontaneously and respond appropriately; 2) verbally communicate with staff, residents, and supervisors in casual and crisis interactions; 3) use and operate keys/access cards, elevators, duty phones, and computer systems; 4) access and respond to situations where they occur (i.e. inside student rooms, bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, elevators, and building lobbies).
