For each gallon of gasoline you burn in your car, you produce 20 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (and even more when you account for traveling uphill). As you travel to and around campus, look for alternate ways to get to your destinations in order to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions released by your car:

 Walk or Bike

If you live on campus, you have it easy! Enjoy walking or biking to your campus destinations every day.

If you live off campus, consider walking or biking to campus if you have a short distance to travel. For longer distances, look into carpooling with a friend or family member

You can now use Google Maps to determine a walking route and calculate the duration of the trip.

If you have reservations about walking on campus at night, call Public Safety's Safe Voyage service (423-914-5940) for an escort.

Campus Recreation rents bikes! Some are free to check out and others require a $5 per week/$15 per month rental fee. Get started with your bike rental by visiting the ETSU Campus Recreation Buc Bikes page.

BucShot & Johnson City Transit System
BucShot

Use the campus BucShot shuttle system to travel around on campus. The BucShot is FREE to students, faculty, and staff with a valid ETSU ID. For more info, visit http://www.johnsoncitytransit.org/bucshot.html.

Ride Johnson City Transit (JCT)! It is also FREE to ETSU students, faculty, and staff with a valid ETSU ID - Johnson City Transit System's newest buses are equipped with bicycle racks on the front of the bus, onto which you may load your bicycle. You may bring your bicycle on board any older JCT bus, which is not equipped with outside bicycle racks. This connects bicyclists to the ETSU campus and the areas of Johnson City covered by the JCT fixed route. Learn more at http://www.johnsoncitytransit.org.
