Academics: The Health Sciences

A Message from the Chair

East Tennessee State University is one of the few Academic Health Sciences Centers that include the complement of Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, and Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences. While we are proud of our history and accomplishments, the possibilities that await us in the next 25 years are both challenging and exciting.

As our Task Force plans for the next 25 years, we feel it is important that we identify the issues that will provide the infrastructure for the decisions that drive the planning for the Academic Health Sciences Center. Some of those issues include new ways of learning, new clinical delivery systems, marketing needs (competition), and research initiatives. As we focus on these and other issues, the Task Force has agreed on the following three assumptions that will guide our discussions:

  1. Interprofessional education will be evident throughout the academic health science center.
  2. Quality - we will continue to do things better and always striving for the best.
  3. Technological advances will be a constant theme throughout all academic health sciences programs.
