Welcome to the new wonderful world of Banner, the new administrative software system that will serve all of ETSU. Although it will be continuously evolving, we hope everyone will come to view it as an opportunity to serve our constituencies better and more effectively.
Banner replaces FRS, SIS, HRS and ADS providing a more integrated, web-based system for processing information on campus. The system has been purchased on a state-wide contract and was implemented at all Tennessee Board of Regents institutions. As of Fall 2008, ETSU is fully functional on all modules of Banner.
As with any new system there is so much to learn and it will take time to get where we want to be. We can still only imagine the ultimate functionality we can achieve given time and effort toward making this a successful project. But for now, we need to get a good understanding of the basics and then begin adapting to specific needs. Following a successful implementation, efforts will be to improve and build upon the system, and streamline business processes. Training of the campus community has begun. Rather than overwhelm you with all that Banner is, we have attempted to tailor training to meet the needs of specific job duties and responsibilities.
What will Banner do for me?
Banner systems will provide improved access to information and services for students and employees through an intuitive self-service user interface. Banner will allow 24/7 access to real-time information. Banner systems are integrated and will reduce redundancy of data between systems. Banner will replace some software currently used to process information outside our existing systems. In short, Banner will assist the university in providing services that will help fulfill the mission of becoming the best regional university in the country.
