Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine
Founded in 1984, Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine published twice annually in June and December, presents a fresh, revealing picture of life in Appalachia, past and present, with engaging articles, personal essays, fiction, poetry, reviews, and photography.
After extensive consideration, Now and Then: The Appalachian Magazine is moving to an all-digital format. The new format will allow us to reach a much wider audience and to include more content, including audiovisual resources. These changes will ensure that Now and Then will continue to be relevant for years to come. The recently-released “The Future of Appalachia” (Vol. 32, No. 2 Winter 2016) issue is the last print edition of the magazine. We will take a brief hiatus before relaunching Now and Then as an online-only magazine. Please continue to check this webpage in the coming months for updates as we prepare to release our first online version of Now & Then. Thank you for your support and we hope that you will continue to read Now and Then in its new format.
