Girls Radio/TV/Film Camp

Girls' Radio/TV/Film Camp - Ages 13-16

Teens will make original radio, television and film projects in the cutting edge HD facility of ETSU's Radio/TV/Film program. Campers will work with college seniors majoring in Mass Communication/Radio-TV-Film and get hand-on experience with cameras, microphones, TV studio production and video editing software.

PLEASE NOTE: Registering and not attending does not constitute cancellation.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR NON-ATTENDANCE PARTICIPANTS.Refund, with a $25.00 processing fee, are possible when a two-week notice is given of cancellation. Substitution of camp week, or another camper, can be made with three days notice.

Teens will get hands-on experience working with staff and students from ETSU's Buccaneer Sports Network and Mass Communication department while learning the craft of broadcast journalism. Teens will benefit from the Buccaneer Sports Network's experience creating content for ESPN and from the Mass Communication Department's cutting-edge HD facility.

Teens will make several media projects about environmental issues in their communities while learning from experienced journalists. Besides working with Mass Communication faculty, staff and college seniors, students will meet and interview community members working on environmental issues. Teens will get experience with photography, audio recording, videography and video editing. Students will investigate issues that are important to their communities and make original multi-media projects that could supplement a portfolio or college application.

The Department of Mass Communication offers programs in Advertising/Public Relations, Journalism, and Radio/Television/Film

We prepare students for successful media careers; filmmaker, multimedia journalist, public relations/advertising specialist, social media manager, or television/radio professional. All coursework is designed to provide professional preparation for students interested in creatively communicating with an audience through media. Digital storytelling and social media application/measurement is integrated across curricula. Additionally, our department coursework supports and complements majors and minors in other fields.


Department Mission

Foster an environment of inquiry, creativity, and innovation to promote responsible and media-literate citizenship, and to teach students the tools for flourishing in the Mass Communication professions. The department also works to increase the public understanding of and appreciation for freedom of communication in a democratic society.

  • Focus on individually-tailored, interactive audiences and how to appeal to them
  • Provide project-focused teamwork experiences that accurately represent what students will confront professionally

Graduate & Professional Education

The Department of Mass Communication collaborates with the Department of Communication & Performance offering a graduate MA in Professional Communication. Additional graduate collaborations include the MS in Digital Marketing and MA in New Media Studio with the College of Business & Technology. Throughout the year the department provides workshops and camps to the community as well.
