TenBucsWorth to Sing at National Conference
TenBucsWorth has been invited to sing the opening concert at the national convention of the Intercollegiate Men's Choruses Conference at Miami University in March. This ten member male chorus is under the direction of Dr. Thomas Jenrette, Director of Choral Activities at ETSU. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

FIRST ANNUAL "ORPHEUS BAND FESTIVAL" MARCH 18 - 19 FEATURES COLONEL JOHN BOURGEOIS

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Lambda Sigma Chapter, is proud to sponsor the First Annual Orpheus Invitational Concert Band Festival. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to perform concert literature, provide an education experience for students and directors, and provide an opportunity to work with a guest conductor known worldwide for expertise in wind band literature. Colonel (ret) John R. Bourgeois, Director Emeritus of "The President's Own" United State Marine Band, will serve as the first guest clinician. Colonel Bourgeois currently serves as visiting professor at Loyola University of New Orleans, and since retiring from the Marine Band has been active guest conducting around the world and publishing new editions of classic wind band compositions. NEW MUSIC STUDENT ORIENTATION - AUGUST 31
The New Student Orientation is scheduled for Monday, August 31, 6:00 PM, in the Mathes Music Building Recital Hall, Room 107. New student music majors, both transfer and first time freshman, are required to attend this orientation which will cover various aspects of being a music major from practice rooms to recital attendance ... final exam juries to graduation requirements. Music faculty will be introduced and a Music Department social will take place after the orientation.

FAMED "JUILLIARD STRING QUARTET" TO PERFORM AT ETSU
The Mary B. Martin School for the Arts is please to announce that the famed Juilliard String Quartet, from the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, will present a concert in the Culp Center Auditorium, Thursday, March 25, 2010. The ETSU Department of Music website will have more information as the time approaches.

JAZZ GREAT "SPYRO GYRA" HERE NOVEMBER

"Spyro Gyra" is an American jazz fusion band originally formed in the mid-1970s in Buffalo, New York. They have over 25 albums released and 10 million copies sold, they are among the most prolific as well as commercially successful groups on the scene. They will present a concert as part of the ETSU Homecoming activities in the Culp Center Auditorium, 7:30 pm, Tuesday, November 10, 2009. SECOND ANNUAL CONDUCTORS SYMPOSIUM

The following individuals attend the Second Annual ETSU Conductors Symposium, June 14 - 18, featuring guest clinician Dr. Timothy Mahr, Director of Bands at St. Olaf College in Minnesota and symposium host Dr. Christian Zembower, ETSU Director of Bands. DR. BENJAMIN CATON ELECTED MUSIC TEACHERS NATIONAL ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT-ELECT

Dr. Benjamin D. Caton, Professor of Music at East Tennessee State University, was recently elected to become the President-Elect of the Music Teachers National Association. He will take over those responsibilities during their national conference in Atlanta, Georgia, on 1 April 2009. Dr. Caton holds a Ph.D degree from The Ohio State University and a Pedagogy/Musicianship Certificate from the Kodaly Music Training Institute. He studied at the Sixteenth International Music Workshop (piano pedagogy) in Exeter, England, and at the International Kodaly Symposium in Kecskemet, Hungary. He also holds the MA from The Ohio State University and the BSME from East Tennessee State University. At ETSU he teaches piano, piano pedagogy and aural skills and is the former chair of the Department of Music.
Congratulations Dr. Caton, President-Elect, Music Teachers National Association.
