Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency
Program Overview
- East Tennessee State University’s Department of Physical Therapy has partnered with
the James H. Quillen Veterans Hospital to develop an Orthopaedic Physical Therapy
Residency Program.
The program is 12 months in length and prepares the resident for clinical practice in Orthopaedic physical therapy. Successful completion of the residency qualifies the resident to sit for the board certification exam in Orthopaedics administered by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS).
Salary is paid through the VAMC and is $52,108 in 2023.

Program Highlights
- Clinical experience within outpatient and inpatient and primary care orthopaedic physical therapy
Additional experience within sport medicine and physical therapy populations
Interdisciplinary experience with a variety of different medical providers
Teaching experiences within the ETSU DPT program
Variety of mentors with varying backgrounds and specialties
150 minimum hours of clinical mentoring
Onsite weekly coursework related to Orthopaedic physical therapy
