Arbor Day
JOHNSON CITY (March 16, 2018) – The East Tennessee State University Arboretum and Department of Sustainability will give away tree seedlings on Friday, March 23, in celebration of Arbor Day.
This event, co-sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts, includes free Persimmon, Willow Oak, Red Hickory, Sweetbay Magnolia and European hornbeam seedlings. Individuals may choose up to three trees per household, and quantities for the various species are limited. A total of 1,800 seedlings will be available.
The trees will be distributed from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at two locations on the ETSU campus: Borchuck Plaza in front of the Sherrod Library and parking lot 22, opposite ETSU’s Summers-Taylor Stadium (soccer) on Go Bucs Trail, which is accessed from S. Greenwood Drive or from the traffic circle beside the west entrance to the ETSU parking garage.
Following the tree giveaway, a 45-minute walking tour of the ETSU Arboretum will be conducted. Starting at Borchuck Plaza at 2 p.m., the tour will feature the early spring flowers and emerging leaves of the arboretum’s diverse native and exotic trees and shrubs.
Both events are open to the public.
