Boland Research Symposium
JOHNSON CITY (March 20, 2018) – East Tennessee State University’s 2018 Boland Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held Tuesday, March 27, at the Millennium Centre.
The symposium highlights and celebrates the scholarly efforts and achievements of undergraduates in a broad range of disciplines at ETSU, from the humanities to the sciences. Student presentations will begin at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the afternoon. The public is invited to attend.
Among research topics are such titles as “The Medicine of Middle-earth,” “Story-telling through Movement,” “Developing and Validating Cancer-Specific Carbon Quantum Dots,” “PTSD Symptoms and Military-Specific Stigma in United States Veterans,” and others.
A new addition to the symposium this year is virtual reality game demonstrations by ETSU’s Digital Media Department in the first floor lobby on the Millennium Centre and student art will be on display throughout the day. From 12:45-1:30 p.m., artists will be available to discuss their work and a series of short performance skits will be held in Room 130.
The symposium is named in memory of Dr. Jay Boland, an ETSU mathematics professor who served as director of the University Honors Scholars Program from 2002 to 2006. The event is sponsored by the ETSU Honors College, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, and the Ronald E. McNair Program, as well as the Dr. Jay Boland Honors Endowment.
