Sevierville workshops
SEVIERVILLE (March 6, 2018) – A series of three “Lunch and Learn” workshops for social workers and other professionals in the field of counseling will be held at the East Tennessee State University Center in Sevierville, hosted by East Tennessee State University’s Department of Social Work.
Attendance is free, and participants are invited to bring their lunch. Those attending all three sessions may earn five hours of continuing education. The CEU certificate fee is $25.
Workshops are:
- “NASW Code of Ethics 2017 Revision” – March 29, 8:45 a.m.-noon. This workshop will highlight recent changes in the National Association of Social Work code and their implications for social work practice.
- “Self-Care in Social Work and Counseling” – April 19, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Such factors as decreased staff, increasing caseloads and budget cuts can result in increased stress for social workers. Participants will have an opportunity to assess themselves, discuss how to sustain and increase resiliency and apply the ideas discussed in the development of a self-care plan.
- “Lessons from Harry Potter” – May 11, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. This workshop will analyze the “Wizarding World” within the popular Harry Potter series as a social system in and of itself and apply social work themes of trauma, resilience and the intersectionality of cultural identity. Attendees will review the impact of these issues on individuals, groups and society and participate in experiential exercises.
