Staff Woman of the Year
JOHNSON CITY (April 16, 2018) – Jill Fair was recognized as East Tennessee State University’s Staff Woman of the Year during a recent award ceremony and reception.
This award recognizes one extraordinary woman who has made a notable impact in the workplace and improved the quality of life for others through inspiration, service to ETSU, community service, support of women’s causes or organizations, or professional accomplishments above or outside normal job responsibilities.
Fair, a scientific graphic specialist who joined the Biomedical Communications (BMC) staff 14 years ago, has played a leading role in her office’s technical advancements. Her nomination notes that while serving on the Administrative Services Review Committee, Fair proposed an initiative for collaboration among university service departments of similar nature. This ultimately led to the establishment of ETSU Creative Services, through which BMC, University Relations and the ETSU Post Office collectively manage projects, providing design, print and mail services for the campus community.
In addition to her work, Fair is active as a volunteer. Helping to raise funds for individuals who are ill, serving on the board of the Elizabethton Woman’s Civic Club, and using her design skills to create T-shirts, newsletters, posters and brochures at no cost for non-profit agencies and her church are among her many efforts.
“Jill is an invaluable ETSU employee,” her nominator states. “Her integrity, innate creativity, passion for quality service, ability to articulate and execute her vision for efficient processes, and leadership qualities inspire and challenge those around her to dream big and likewise give their best to the work at hand.”
The award has been co-sponsored annually since 2012 by the university’s Commission for Women Standing Committee, Office of Equity and Diversity and Women’s Resource Center. Fair was presented her award by ETSU President Brian Noland and Dr. Larissa Bossaer, chair of the Commission for Women Standing Committee.
