Carpenter story concert
JOHNSON CITY – Storyteller Regi Carpenter will be featured in a public concert at East Tennessee State University on Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Studio 205 of the Campus Center Building.
Carpenter will share fanciful stories of small-town escapades with her family, as well as folk tales with a personal twist, in this concert, which is the second of two held as part of the ETSU Storytelling Program’s annual Storytelling Institutes. These institutes, which have been part of the program since 1992, feature three- and five-day master classes led by some of the world’s top performers and teachers of storytelling arts.
Carpenter’s three-day intensive on “The Art and Craft of Storytelling: Developing Your Artistry” will be held June 21-23. This program will help novice and experienced storytellers hone the art and craft of telling stories in a fun, interactive, imaginative and expressive residency.
For over 20 years, Carpenter, a native of Clayton, New York, has taken songs and stories to audiences of all ages throughout the world in schools, theaters, libraries, festivals and conferences, and even in people’s back yards. She has toured her solo shows and workshops both nationally and internationally. She is a favorite featured artist at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, where she just completed a week as Teller in Residence at the International Storytelling Center.
Carpenter’s many honors include Storytelling World, Parents’ Choice and Parents’ Guide to Children’s Media awards. Her stories have been featured on Sirius Radio, Apple Seed Radio, The Moth and NPR. Her story “Snap!” is a winner of the Boston Story Slam.
Admission to Carpenter’s concert is free, and donations will be accepted. The concert is sponsored by the ETSU Storytelling Program and Department of Communication and Performance.
