Welcome Week 2018
East Tennessee State University is hosting a variety of Welcome Week activities for new and returning students to kick off the fall semester, which begins Monday, Aug. 27. Events include:
Welcome Back Block Party
Aug. 26, 6-8 p.m., Tri-Hall Field (behind Governors, Centennial and Davis Halls)
Students will meet up with old friends and make new ones at this cookout sponsored
by ETSU Housing and Residence Life and Campus Recreation. Free food, games, giveaways
and music are included.
Open High Challenge Course
Aug. 26, 3 p.m.*, Basler Team Challenge and Aerial Adventure Course (off Go Bucs Trail)
Participants can stretch their physical and mental limits on this state-of-the-art
ropes course, which features 21 unique climbing, zipping, walking, balancing and swinging
challenges. *Four time slots are available: 3, 3:15, 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. This event is free for
ETSU students and employees, and is also open to the community with a registration
fee of $22 per person. More information and required registration are available at

The “Scoop” on Faith and Service
Aug. 27, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Quad
Students may enjoy a scoop of ice cream while connecting with campus and community
faith-based and service organizations. Sponsored by ETSU’s Community Service Programs,
Campus Ministries and Division of Student Affairs.
Women’s Soccer
Aug. 27, 7 p.m., Summers-Taylor Stadium
The Buccaneers take on University of North Carolina-Winthrop.
Bucky’s Back to School Bash
Aug. 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Quad
Students may meet members of fraternities, sororities, Buctainment, Residence Hall
Association, Student Government Association, Black Affairs and more. Participants
will learn about what these groups are doing for students and how to get involved,
as well as enjoy food, novelties, giveaways and games.
ETSU PRIDE Community Showcase
Aug. 29, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Quad
Area businesses will share giveaways and information about their products and services
in this event hosted by the ETSU Alumni Association and Johnson City/Jonesborough/Washington
County Chamber of Commerce.
NPHC and MGC Yard Show
Aug. 29, 7:30-8:30 p.m., William B. Greene Jr. Stadium arch
The chapters that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council and Multicultural Greek
Council at ETSU will share music, popcorn and information about their organizations
with students.
Movie in the Football Stadium
Aug. 29, 8:30 p.m., William B. Greene Jr. Stadium
Students may bring a blanket and enjoy “Avengers: Infinity War” starring Robert Downey
Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in this event sponsored by Buctainment.
Campus Organization Round Up and College Fair
Aug. 30, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Warf-Pickel Plaza (near Parking Garage and Subway)
ETSU’s student support service offices, along with academic departments and academic
student organizations and honor societies, will set up informative displays and activities
information to students. Buctainment will take care of entertainment, while the Student
Organization Resource Center will provide free food.
ROTC 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament
Aug. 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Basler Center for Physical Activity
Groups of students may enter or just come watch this annual tournament sponsored by
ETSU’s Army ROTC, in which winning teams will be awarded trophies. Free registration

Campus Recreation RecFest
Aug. 30, 7-10 p.m., Basler Center for Physical Activity
Students are invited to learn more about the individual and group fitness activities
available at the Basler Center for Physical Activity. RecFest includes sport club
information tables, group fitness demos, rock wall climbing, a deadlift competition,
an intramural rock-paper-scissors tournament and other activities, as well as giveaways
and free food.
Cultural Remix: Cultural Jam and Multicultural Expo
Aug. 31, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Quad
This introduction to ETSU’s diverse student organizations provides a variety of entertainment
and demonstrates the types of programs, activities and services offered by the Office
of Multicultural Affairs. The event includes music by a live band, African cultural
drumming, giveaways, free food and such activities as calligraphy, origami and henna
tattoos.
Buccaneer Football
Sept. 1
Students, employees and the community are invited to show their Buccaneer pride, with
tailgating taking place all day at parking lots on the west end of campus near William
B. Greene Jr. Stadium. Live music will be performed at parking lot 21 from 3-5 p.m.,
followed by the Buc Walk at 5:15 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear gold for the “GOLD
OUT” season opener at 7:30 p.m. in Greene Stadium, when the Buccaneer football team
