'Diverse and Beautiful' reception
JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University’s Slocumb Galleries will host a reception and panel discussion on “Diverse & Beautiful: Black Artists in Tennessee and Appalachia” on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5-7 p.m.
This free public event is in conjunction with the “Diverse & Beautiful: Interchangeable by Althea Murphy Price” exhibit on display at Slocumb Galleries.
Price, a Knoxville-based artist and educator, will speak on the panel, along with Nashville photographer Carlton Wilkinson, who will discuss African Appalachians. Dr. Dorothy Drinkard-Hawkshawe, ETSU professor of history and director of Africana Studies, will present an excerpt of her lecture, “African Art: Its Uses and Impact on World Art.”
The reception will be held in Slocumb Galleries in Ball Hall, with the panel discussion to take place in the Ball Hall auditorium.
