'Choral Collage'
JOHNSON CITY – The choral ensembles of East Tennessee State University’s Department of Music will open their fall concert season with a “Choral Collage” on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church.
The concert will feature a wide range of styles, from Renaissance to contemporary. Composers include Antonio Lotti, Johannes Brahms, Franz Schubert, Halsey Stevens, Dale Trumbore and “more that no one will know,” says Dr. Matthew Potterton, an associate professor who serves as chair of the department and director of choral and vocal activities.
Ensembles performing during the program are the ETSU Chorale and Belles women’s choir, conducted by Potterton, along with the BucsWorth men’s choir and Greyscale, conducted by Dr. Alan Stevens, associate director of choral activities.
The Belles choir will perform selections which its members will sing at the Tennessee Music Educators Association’s (TMEA) conference in Nashville in April 2019. The choir will be joined by faculty member Karen Smith as soloist on Schubert’s “Ständchen.”
Potterton notes that Belles was selected for the honor of performing at TMEA through a blind audition adjudicated by choral professionals from around the state.
In addition, the Chorale will perform numbers being prepared for an international choir competition in Wales in the summer of 2019.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Munsey Church is located at 201 E. Market St. in downtown Johnson City.
