Community of Scholars

JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 7, 2018) – A new forum has been created at East Tennessee State University to disseminate information from the research community to interested faculty and the Tri-Cities community. The first “Community of Scholars” presentation will be held on Friday, Nov. 16.

Dr. Jonathan Moorman, professor of medicine and section chief for Infectious Diseases at the Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, will discuss “Translational Research in HIV/AIDS” from 9-9:45 a.m. in the Millennium Center, followed by a question-and-answer session. Then, seed grant recipients from ETSU’s Center of Excellence in Inflammation, Infectious Diseases and Immunity will present their proposed research concepts in HIV and AIDS.

The Community of Scholars was created to highlight research being conducted at ETSU within the Academic Health Sciences Center colleges – the Quillen College of Medicine, the Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Nursing, the College of Public Health and the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences – that impacts the Appalachian region.  The concept was developed by Dr. Ken Phillips, associate dean of research for the College of Nursing, and supported by Dr. W. Andrew Clark, associate dean for research in the College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences.

Moorman’s presentation is free and open to the public.
