Fossil Celebration
JOHNSON CITY – The Gray Fossil Site and Museum will hold a Fossil Celebration Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
This event is part of a local celebration of National Fossil Day, an annual observance highlighting the scientific and educational value of paleontology and the importance of preserving fossils for future generations. This year, East Tennessee State University’s Gray Fossil Site and Museum is partnering with the National Park Service, Hands On! Discovery Center and Appalachian State University in hosting this event.
Activities and presentations for all ages are planned, including opportunities to see fossils up-close and talk one-on-one with paleontologists working at the Gray Fossil Site. Participants may learn how paleontologists use modern technology like 3D scanning to investigate ancient fossils. They may also become “time detectives” to find out the “who, what and why” of a “fossil mystery.”
The Gray Fossil Site and Museum is located 1.8 miles off exit 13 on Interstate 26. Admission to the Hands On! Discovery Center is $10 for adults and children over 4, but Fossil Celebration activities are free to the public.
