One important aspect that drives most design decisions is cost. Learning how to estimate
those costs early in the design process is critical to completing a successful design.
Dr. Kellogg, ETSU’s Construction Engineering Program Coordinator, discussed how to
use R.S. Means Books with junior design students. RS Means show the typical costs
and materials needed for a particular type of construction. Students learned how
to estimate costs and will use that knowledge on their next project.
