Dr. Alamian Re-Elected to APHA Governing Council

 

Arsham Alamian

Dr. Arsham Alamian, Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at East Tennessee State University, has been elected to a two-year term as a Governing Councilor of the Epidemiology Section of the American Public Health Association. The Governing  Council is the representative legislative body of the Association. Dr. Alamian is the only faculty to serve and represent East Tennessee State University and the State of Tennessee, as Governing Councilor, in the Epidemiology Section of the Association.   

The Epidemiology Section fosters epidemiologic research and science-based public health practice and serves as a conduit between the epidemiologic research community and users of scientific information for the development, implementation and evaluation of policies affecting the public's health. The American Public Health Association is a 145 year old membership organization that brings together individuals and institutions representing all fields of public health. 

Dr. Alamian’s research focuses on the epidemiology of chronic disease risk factors and behaviors among pediatric and at risk populations. He is also a co-investigator on an inter-professional grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to address prescription drug abuse and misuse in Appalachia.
