Dr. Alamian Co-Chairs Symposium for the ACCP

Arsham Alamian

Dr. Arsham Alamian, Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology of the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, organized and co-chaired a symposium on opioid abuse and misuse for the 2017 American College of Clinical Pharmacology meeting in San Diego, California.  He was also an invited faculty speaker at the meeting in September 2017.

Dr. Sam Harirforoosh, Associate Professor in the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, co-chaired the symposium with Dr. Alamian and also spoke at the meeting.  The symposium was titled Opioid Abuse & Misuse: A Rising Epidemic in America.  It was designed for scientists, physicians, pharmacists and other health care providers who have an interest in the rising opioid epidemic and/or currently conduct research on opioid abuse, prescribe or dispense opioids or develop strategies for the management of opioid misuse, abuse, dependence or addiction.

"The Opioid crisis has become a national public health priority. As such, we sought to organize a scientific symposium on this important issue that is touching the lives of so many Americans,” stated Drs. Alamian and Harirforoosh. “The American College of Clinical Pharmacology provided a unique venue to present the latest data and trends on the opioid epidemic, discuss the pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics of prescription opioids, review the CDC guidelines for prescribing opioids, and address the importance of medical and regulatory policies in opioid therapy.”

The American College of Clinical Pharmacology is a national organization of clinical pharmacology healthcare professionals who seek to advance clinical pharmacology.
