Dr. Alamian Edits CDC-Sponsored Journal
Dr. Arsham Alamian, associate professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology of East Tennessee State University’s College of Public Health, has been named an associate editor of Preventing Chronic Disease.
Preventing Chronic Disease is a peer-reviewed public health journal sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that publishes articles from experts worldwide. It was established in 2004 by the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion with a mission to promote dialogue among researchers, practitioners, and policy makers worldwide on the integration and application of research findings and practical experience to improve population health.
All manuscripts determined to be appropriate for peer review undergo a rigorous review by the journal’s associate editors. These volunteers are independent public health experts who bring a wealth of training, experience, and expertise to the journal. They select manuscripts on the basis of their alignment with the journal’s vision and mission and their scientific and programmatic contributions to advancing the field of chronic disease prevention and control.
Dr. Alamian focuses his research on the epidemiology of chronic disease, as well as the epidemiology of behavioral risk factors for chronic disease. He is a co-investigator on an interprofessional research grant recently awarded to ETSU by the National Institute on Drug Abuse for the study of prescription drug abuse and misuse in Appalachia. He has been investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health and state grants on pediatric obesity, metabolic syndrome, and biomarkers for chronic liver disease.
Alamian, who is also an elected, full member of the American College of Epidemiology, received his doctoral degree in public health, with a specialization in epidemiology, from the University of Montreal. He completed a fellowship in public health with the Quebec Population Health Research Network, also in Montreal, and holds a master of science degree in pharmacy, with a specialization in pharmacoepidemiology, from Laval University in Quebec City.
