Health Sciences Student Chosen for Boris Franzus Award

Khadijat Aregbe

Adegbemisola Aregbe, a junior pre-medical undergraduate student in the department of Health Sciences at East Tennessee State University, has been awarded the 2016 Boris Franzus Memorial Scholarship by the ETSU Department of Chemistry. This award, which is presented only once a year, is given to an outstanding student in undergraduate organic chemistry.

Ms. Aregbe, also known by her middle name Khadijat, is currently an Honors-in-Discipline student in Microbiology. She works as a tutor and a mentor at the Student Support Services TRIO program and is also a BEST mentor at ETSU. She serves as the treasurer of the ETSU Gospel choir, the Public Relations chairperson of the American Medical Students Association, and a Senator for the Student Government Association. She is also currently the Vice President of Shades of Africa Organization at ETSU.

Originally from Nigeria, Ms. Aregbe lived in London for five years, and attended Kings College University in London, before transferring to ETSU. Although her desire is to pursue a career in medicine, Ms. Aregbe has developed a very strong interest for public health, especially when it comes women’s’ health.

Ms. Aregbe shared a quote that inspires her for future students to remember: "Even whilst standing on the ground, never give up aiming for the sky."
