Dr. Baker and Anthony Peluso Present on Skin Cancer Prevention

Dr. Katie Baker, Assistant Professor, and Anthony Peluso, doctoral student, in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health of the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, presented at the 4th International Conference on UV and Skin Cancer Prevention.  The conference was held May 1-4, 2018 in Toronto, Canada.

Anthony Peluso presented research titled ETSU is “Skin Smart”: Policy Adoption Aimed at Reducing Indoor Tanning Among College Students at a Small Southeastern University.”  Dr. Baker also recorded a brief video about East Tennessee State University as the first Skin Smart Campus Platinum Level award recipient in the nation.  The video was shown at one of the pre-conference workshops called the Indoor Tan-Free “Skin Smart Campus” Initiative.  East Tennessee State University is the first higher education institution in the nation to be designated an Indoor Tan-Free Skin Smart Campus by the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention.

The conference brought together international experts in skin cancer prevention, UV radiation science, dermatology, allied behavioral and clinical disciplines and members of the environmental planning and design communities who are working in the field of UV and skin cancer prevention. The 2018 conference was organized by a joint planning committee of skin cancer prevention experts in Canada and the United States from Ryerson University, Toronto Canada, the Canadian Dermatology Association, and Klein Buendel, Inc, Golden CO, USA.
