Environmental Health Student Awarded Scholarship

Emily Branum

Emily Branum, student in the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health program in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, has been awarded a scholarship from the Association of Food and Drug Officials.

In 1981, AFDO established a scholarship fund for recipients who have demonstrated a desire to serve in a career of research, regulatory work, quality control, or teaching in an area related to some aspect of foods, drugs or consumer product safety.  As the recipient of this scholarship, Ms. Branum has demonstrated leadership capabilities; and had at least a 3.0 grade point average during the first two years of her undergraduate study.

“I am honored and very grateful for this opportunity, not only to the AFDO Committee that decided this award but also for the Environmental Health department and all of their wonderful professors,” said Ms. Branum. “This is a great investment for my future and I'm so glad that I am surrounded by people who believe in me and what I can accomplish.”

As a scholarship recipient, Emily Branum is invited to attend the Wiley Award Banquet during the Association’s Annual Education Conference that will be held in Houston, Texas.
