College of Public Health Students Win Rural Health Poster Competition
Kimberly Carney and Kaitlyn Taylor, students in East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, placed first and second in the Rural Health Association of Tennessee Fourth Annual Virtual Poster Competition.
A virtual research poster competition is a low-cost way for students, residents and faculty to share their research without the costs of producing a “hard-copy” poster.
Kimberly Carney, Master of Public Health student with a concentration in Community Health, placed first in the Undergraduate and Masters’ Students Division and placed fifth overall out of all divisions. Her poster was titled “Prevalence of multi-drug resistant bacteria among shelter dogs in the Central Appalachian region.” Dr. Carney is also faculty in Lincoln Memorial University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Kaitlyn Taylor, undergraduate student in the college’s Department of Health Sciences, placed second in the Undergraduate and Masters’ Students Division for her poster, “Vitamin C Breakdown to Oxalate in HepG2 Cells.”
The Rural Health Association of Tennessee strives to improve the health of rural Tennesseans through advocacy, communication, education, and legislation. It also defines key issues relative to the health and well-being of rural Tennesseans. This year, the association held its 25 th Annual Conference from November 20-22 at the Music Road Hotel and Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
